About Dr Hayes
Choosing a psychologist is an important and often very personal decision. Many people want to know not only about qualifications, but about how they will be understood and supported.
I am a registered Practitioner Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), as well as a member of the BPS Division
of Clinical Psychology. This means my work is held to the highest professional and ethical standards in the UK.
I have worked in the NHS for over a decade, in a variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient services, and with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties. I have experience working with people of all ages, from children to older adults, and with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, psychosis, personality difficulties, and more. I have also worked with people from diverse backgrounds and with a range of identities.
Alongside my doctoral training, I have undertaken extensive additional specialist training. I am accredited in EMDR and trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, both approaches that are particularly helpful for trauma and experiences that feel “stuck” in the body as well as the mind. I have also completed advanced training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
How I Work
My Clinical Psychology training emphasised integrating different perspectives rather than applying a single approach to everyone. In practice, this means I tailor therapy to you.
I draw from:
- Cognitive-behavioural approaches (working with thoughts, emotions and behaviours)
- Psychodynamic approaches (understanding deeper patterns and unconscious processes)
- Systemic thinking (considering relationships and wider contexts)
Throughout my career, I have also undertaken specialist training and supervision in psychoanalytic approaches, helping me to work thoughtfully with long-standing patterns and complex emotional difficulties. Above all, my aim is to offer a space that feels thoughtful, containing and collaborative where we can make sense of your experiences at a pace that feels right for you.

My academic and research interests include personality development, the relationship between psychological theory and scientific evidence, and the philosophical foundations of psychological knowledge.
While this informs my thinking, my focus in therapy is always on what is most helpful and meaningful for you.
